"Big Man & The Boss" - 1978 - Veterans Coliseum, Phoenix, AZ

One of earliest photos I took when I was just starting out in my early twenties as a photographer (photographed from the third row).

In 1978, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's visit to the Valley of the Sun, known as the "Darkness Tour," came in conjunction with the release of their album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, the band's fourth album.  I was 24 years-old and a huge fan of "The Boss."  I had thrid-row, center seats and brought my trusty Nikon FM 35mm camera. Because I was very new to photographing concerts I only came with the one roll of 36-exposure b/w Tri-X film (which I rated at 1000 ASA) loaded in my camera.

Though I was (and still am) a huge fan, I had no idea at the time how iconic this show would become.  CBS filmed the entire show for an upcoming special about rock n roll. After the tour, a music video from this performance for "Rosalita" was released to MTV, that included numerous adoring women rushing the stage to hug and kiss Bruce. He, and his security crew, was completely unprepared for it! This was one of the very first videos (viewed over 2 million times) that managed to capture the energetic and playful side of a early Springsteen and the E Street Band performance live in concert and their unique and passionate relationship they had with their faithful and adoring fans.

Anyone who knows anythng about Bruce and the E Street Band knows how iconic this moment between Sprinsteen and Clarence Clemons that I was priveledged and lucky enough to capture.  I still dont know how I managed to get it in focus because of my dancing and screaming, and the incredible meyhem around me.
